St Joseph's Catholic Women's League
The C.W.L. needs you. We do much more than host bake sales!
At present, we provide school bursaries, support a refugee
family, donate to Birthright, Prolife, Canadian Catholic Missions,
a Third World Women’s Group, a mission for orphans and
widows in the Congo and, of course, St. Joseph’s Church.
We truly need new members and welcome new ideas.
The Catholic Women's League of Canada
The Catholic Women's League of Canada is an organization
that contributes to the life and vitality of the church, family
and community, both at home and abroad.
St Joseph's Catholic Women's League has been in existence
for a number of years. Their Ministry was encouraged and supported
by Father O'Connor when he was assigned to this Parish in
1984. He was also the CWL Diocesan Chaplain at that time.
While your presence at meetings is important, we realize
that in this busy world it may not always be possible for
you to attend. Be assured that your interest and support is
as important as your attendance! Our present membership is
approximately 140.
The annual membership fee is $17. Please make your cheque
payable to St Joseph's CWL and place it in the regular Sunday
collection basket. Included in your membership is The Canadian
League magazine (published three times per year) which will
keep you informed of League business and projects and in contact
with other members across Canada.
The St. Joseph's Catholic Women's League meets monthly September
through June. Please watch the weekly Bulletin or the Web
Calendar for information. We encourage your participation
in any event.
Where will you see a St Joseph CWL Member active in our community
?
Funeral Luncheons
Several members are ready on short notice to bake, make sandwiches,
and host Funeral Luncheons for our Parishoners in our Church
Hall. Please ask for this service when you are making Funeral
arrangements for your loved ones. Special events may already
be booked and as a result, we may not always be able to accomodate
your family.
Food Bank
CWL members are responsible for handing out the white bags
one Sunday per month for the Food Bank - the filled bags are
then returned to the Church the following Sunday and delivered
to needy families through the Partners in Missions Food Bank
Volunteers. This is a reminder to all of us to remember those
who may be hungry in our midst.
Cancer Clinic
One of the Ministries encouraged through St Joseph's CWL is
volunteering to care for Cancer patients at the Kingston General
Hospital. Duties include guiding patients to their respective
Doctors, Clinics, Lab and X-Ray rooms. The Volunteer is responsible
to carry the charts and see that the patients are as comfortable
as possible throughout their stay. In the Chemo room you could
be keeping the blanket warmer stocked and offering drinks
to the patients while they are having their treatments. If
you feel you are able to join this Ministry, please call the
Church office and the secretary will give you the name of
a contact person.
According to National League Policy, Objects of the League
shall be to unite Catholic women of Canada:
* to achieve individual and collective spiritual development.
*to promote the teachings of the Catholic church.
*to exemplify the Christian ideal in home and family life.
*to protect the sanctity of human life.
*to enhance the role of women in church and society.
*to recognize the human dignity of all people everywhere.
