Introduction

The next act of the Christmas story sees the visit of the magi, the wise men from the east, to the infant Jesus. Their journey is fulfilled in adoration.

First Reading: Isaiah 60:1-6

The prophet sees the day dawning when the glory of the Lord will be in Jerusalem.

Second Reading: Ephesians 3:2-3, 5-6

Paul recalls the revelation he received about God’s love for all people.

Gospel: Matthew 2:1-12

Wise men come from the east to disturb one king and to worship another.

JUNIOR LITURGY Junior Liturgy will resume this Sunday, 8 January 2012. New schedules are ready for pick-up for Junior Liturgy Leaders.

LECTORS, EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS, USHERS SCHEDULES are ready for pick-up in the sacristy.

BUILDING FUND The monthly collection of the Building Fund will be taken up this weekend, 7-8 January 2012. Your support continues to make a difference.

CATHOLIC WOMEN’S LEAGUE GENERAL MEETING The first General Meeting of the new year will take place on Monday, 9 January 2012, at 7:05 p.m., in the church. There will be two speakers from the Family Resource Centre, Frontenac Community Mental Health & Addictions Services. They will be speaking on a wide range of topics, touching on depression, addictions, schizophrenia, etc. All parishioners are welcome to attend.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS GENERAL MEETING will take place on Tuesday, 10 January 2012, at 7:30 p.m. in the parish hall.

PARISH COUNCIL MEETING The next meeting of the Pastoral Parish Council will take place on Thursday, 12 January 2012, at 7:00 p.m., in the parish hall.

FIRST RECONCILIATION/COMMUNION ENROLMENT CEREMONY The enrolment ceremony for children planning to celebrate their First Reconciliation/First Communion at St. Joseph’s will be held at all Masses on 21-22 January 2012. First Reconciliation will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, 16 February 2012, and First Communion will take place on Sunday, 6 May 2012, at 2:00 p.m. If you wish to register your child for First Communion, and have yet to do so, please contact the parish office at 613-547-5004 as soon as possible.

CATHOLIC WOMEN’S LEAGUE MEMBERSHIP DRIVE The Catholic Women’s League of Canada is a national organization rooted in gospel values, calling its members to holiness through service to the people of God. The annual membership drive will take place here at St. Joseph’s on 28-29 January and 4-5 February 2012. Catholic Women’s League members will be at the church entrances to receive your membership fees of $20.00 for 2012. Every woman of St. Joseph’s Parish, sixteen years of age and older, is invited to be a member of the League.

OUR COMMUNITY

NEW LIFE GROUP MEETING is a Catholic Ministry for the Separated and Divorced. Meetings are held on alternate Tuesday evenings at the Diocesan Centre, 390 Palace Road, Kingston. The next meeting will take place on Tuesday, 24 January 2012, 7:30 p.m. All are welcome.

ST. ANDREW SCHOOL OF EVANGELIZATION invites you to “New Life,” at St. Michael the Archangel Parish Centre, Belleville, from 6:30 p.m., Friday, 13 January, to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, 15 January. The objective of the course is for you to experience the salvation of God by way of a personal encounter with the resurrected Jesus through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, in order to live as children of God.
