St.
Joseph's Parish Pastoral Council
Constitution
The St. Joseph's Parish Pastoral Council brings together
clergy, religious and laity who work together to build the
parish as a living Christian community. Copies of the Constitution
of the Parish Pastoral Council are available at the church
office and at the entrance to the church.
The responsibilities of the Parish Pastoral Council are listed
below, as are the names and responsibilities of the various
Committees that assist the Council in its role of nourishing
the growth of the parish as a Christian community of faith.
At this time of year, members are sought both for the Parish
Pastoral Council and for the Committees of the Council.
You are invited to review your own personal gifts in relation
to the following list and to indicate any area in which you
would like to participate.
Parish Pastoral Council:
1. assists the people of God, in union with their pastor,
to exercise their role of living out and witnessing to the
Gospel of Jesus Christ;
2. sets an example of unity and cooperation to both the parish
and the entire community;
3. brings all the elements of the parish together in order
to foster the spiritual growth of all parish members and to
build the parish as a living Christian community.
Liturgy Committee:
1. prepares for the celebration of the Sacraments;
2. organizes Lectors and Extraordinary Minister of Communion;
3. organizes altar servers;
4. organizes music ministries;
5. attends to the art and environment of the church, decorations,
flowers, banners, etc.;
6. organizes the ushers, welcoming and greeting people.
Social Committee:
1. develops, plans and conducts social events within the spirit
of the Constitution;
2. conducts fundraising activities to support parish projects
and missions;
3. co-ordinates outreach projects such as food banks, Christmas
baskets and neighbourhood sharing;
4. identifies ways of working with local agencies and churches
in social (civic) projects.
Community Life/Family Life Committee:
1. conducts parish surveys to determine needs and to provide
input for the parish's long-range objectives;
2. develops resources to facilitate maximum health and wellness
of each person;
3. welcomes newcomers to the parish;
4. identifies and supports those hi need of pastoral assistance
or other kind of support;
5. visits the sick and shut-ins;
6. keeps the parish informed of the activities of the Council.
Youth Group Committee:
1. fosters Faith Development activities;
2. conducts social and sports activities;
3. liaises with Kingston area Catholic schools;
4. conducts youth fundraising activities;
5. liaises with youth programs of the Archdiocese of Kingston;
6. communicates with the youth of the parish.
Education Committee:
1. develops and maintains religious education programs;
2. develops information programs and discussion groups on
faith development;
3. provides information on retreats;
4. liaises with the Diocesan Office of Religious Education.
Seniors' Committee:
1. determines special needs for the seniors of the parish;
2. maintains a list of seniors' activities in the area;
3. organizes activities for seniors.
