Introduction

Storms are frequent in the course of life and often threaten to overwhelm us. The Lord is with us in the storms and strengthens us to face them.

ST. JOSEPH’S ROOM MEDIA RESOURCES Would you like to grow in your understanding of the Catholic faith? We are happy to announce that we now have resources available in the St. Joseph’s Room. These books and audio CDs, by some of the most well known and engaging Catholic writers and speakers in the world today, cover many different topics of interest. Stop in to pick up something that interests you or that would make a good gift for someone else. If you’ve enjoyed the resource, be sure to share it with others! To help cover some of the expenses, the suggested donation for books and CDs is $5.00 each; pamphlets are free.

BUILDING FUND The monthly collection of the Building Fund will take place this weekend, 12-13 August 2017. Your support continues to make a difference. Thank you.

SOCIAL & ECOLOGICAL JUSTICE GROUP will hold the next meeting on Friday, 25 August 2017, at 9:30 a.m. Please join us in the parish hall.

DAY OF REFLECTION & RENEWAL for all involved in ministry will take place on Saturday, 30 September 2017, from 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m., at Providence Spirituality Centre, Kingston. Everyone is welcome. JUNIOR LITURGY PROGRAM will commence on Sunday, 10 September 2017, at the 9:00 & 11:00 a.m. Masses. The Junior Liturgy program is designed for children who are 4-8 years of age. The children are asked to sit with their parents until they are called forward by the Priest. They will receive a blessing and be guided into the parish hall. They will return to their parents just before the Offertory. We look forward to a great year with your children and thank our volunteers for all their assistance. MASS AT ST. MARY’S CEMETERY St. Joseph’s Parish will celebrate Mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery on Sunday, 10 September 2017, at 2:00 p.m., at 718 Division Street, Kingston. Archbishop O’Brien will preside. This will be an excellent opportunity to remember, and to commend to God, family members, friends and former parishioners who have gone before us. Please invite others who might wish to join you; and bring a hat and lawn chair for your comfort and convenience.

OUR COMMUNITY

SACRISTAN POSITION available at St. Mary’s Cathedral. The Sacristan’s position is a 50% position. The duties include the cleaning and upkeep of all vestments, linens used for Mass, altar cloths, altar servers’ robes, choir members’ robes, sacred vessels and everything required for the upkeep of the sanctuaries of the Cathedral and St. James’ chapel. Interested applicants should be very particular about cleanliness and be a very proficient seamstress/tailor. Extra duties would involve setting up for all Sunday Masses, being present at the 10:30 a.m. Sunday Mass at the Cathedral, at any celebration for which the Archbishop is present, and for funerals and weddings. LATIN MASS will be celebrated on 3 September 2017, at St. James’ Chapel of The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of Mary, at 3:00 p.m. Father Brian Price will preside. All are welcome.

SEPARATED AND/OR DIVORCED Are you, or someone you know, experiencing the trauma of a Separation and/or Divorce? Where do you turn for help? Come to the New Life Group Meeting, a Catholic Ministry for the Separated and Divorced, on alternate Tuesday evenings, from 7:30-9:30 p.m. The next meeting will take place on Tuesday, 15 August 2017, at the Francis J. Spence Pastoral Centre, 390 Palace Road. The topic will be, “Coping with Others: Honest Communication.”

GALA 2017 Queen’S MBA Charity Gala is a student-run initiative that aims to make a difference within the Kingston community by supporting a local charity or philanthropic cause. The event seeks to bring those from within and outside Kingston together for a night filled with fun, entertainment and celebration. This year’s recipient will be the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Kingston. It will be held on Thursday, 31 August 2017, starting with cocktails at 6:00 p.m., at The Harbour Restaurant. DUC IN ALTUM Registrations are being accepted from young adults wishing to join other Archdiocesan youth for the 2017-2018 year. CONFERENCE IN KINGSTON We are called to hear and reflect on the Word of God to become more deeply the word of God ourselves and to proclaim it by our lives. This gathering will focus on the role of the Word of God in our lives as Catholics. We shall explore the place God’s Word has in the preparation for Baptism, Confirmation and first sharing in Holy Communion, as well as the implications of having the Word of God at the heart of the initiation process (RCIA). This event is for all baptized, especially those preparing to celebrate Sacraments of Initiation, on Friday, 15 September 2017, from 7:00-9:00 p.m.; and Saturday, 16 September 2017, from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m., at the Providence Spirituality Centre, 1200 Princess Street, Kingston. PILGRIMAGE TO SAINT-MARIE AMONG THE HURONS & MARTYR SHRINE IN MIDLAND on 16 September 2017, hosted by St. Barnaby’s Catholic Women’s League. Coach bus leaves St. Barnaby’s at 7:00 a.m. Cost is $50.00 per person, but may be reduced, depending on fundraising efforts.
