Fourth Sunday of Advent

23 December 2018

“The child in my womb leapt for joy.”

Introduction

The final Sunday of Advent each year is the only one on which the Gospel explicitly refers to the birth of the one whose birth we celebrate at Christmas.  Today, that proclamation takes place in the context of that famous meeting between Mary and her older relative, Elizabeth.

Todays Readings

First Reading: Micah 5:1-4

Micah the prophet looks to a new age, set against the background of King David’s birthplace of Bethlehem.

Second Reading: Hebrews 10:5-10

The writer of the letter to the Hebrews focuses on the obedience of Jesus to his Father’s will.

Gospel: Luke 1:39-45

Mary and Elizabeth meet, and each proclaims Mary’s child, as does Elizabeth’s unborn child.  This story, usually called the visitation, could also be classed as another Annunciation.

THANK YOU The Catholic Women’s League are very grateful to all who helped make our recent Craft & Bake Sale a huge success.  We thank all the bakers, those who made or gave crafts, those who donated the raffled theme baskets, and all those who worked so hard.  A special thank you to Kelly Canning, her students at St. Thomas More Catholic School, and Carly Francke for their very generous support.  Lastly, we thank the parishioners for their unfailing support.

CHRISTMAS TREE PICK-UP St. Paul Catholic School Council will once again offer a Christmas Tree pick-up fundraiser in Kingston.  Trees will be picked up on Sunday, 6 January 2019, and taken to the recycling depot.  Your $15.00 donation will directly support the School Council’s fundraising initiatives, which include playground renewal projects.  Kindly leave your donation in your mailbox, in an envelope marked “St. Paul’s,” or taped to your door before 10:00 a.m. that morning.  Please email st.paul.school.council@hotmail.com, or call Dari at 613-329-9642, to leave your name, phone number and address to schedule a pick-up. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from the St. Paul Catholic School Council.
