The Presentation of the Lord

2 February 2020

My eyes have seen the salvation which you have prepared for all the nations to see, a light to enlighten the pagans and the glory of your people Israel.

The feast of the Presentation of the Lord, otherwise called Candlemas, provides us with an opportunity to present ourselves anew to the Lord, so that we may carry his light for all to see.

Todays Readings

First Reading: Malachi 3:1-4

Malachi prepares the way for today’s feast: the Lord will enter his Temple.

Second Reading: Hebrews 2:14-18

Jesus has come to confront the powers of evil.

Gospel: Luke 2:22-40

Joseph and Mary fulfil the requirements of the Law and present Jesus in the Temple.  It provides an opportunity for two aged people who have remained attentive to God to speak prophetically about this child as the salvation of all the nations.
