Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time

3 February 2019

“No prophet is ever accepted in his own country.”

Introduction

When Jesus returned to his home town, the people were astonished at the gracious words that he spoke.  We gather today to be nourished by the life-giving words of the same Jesus and to be fed by his very self.

Todays Readings

First Reading: Jeremiah 1:4-5, 17-19

God has appointed Jeremiah to be his prophet and promises to be with him.

Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 12:31-13:13

Paul’s hymn to love; the greatest of all gifts.

Gospel: Luke 4:21-30

Approval quickly turns to hostility as Jesus preaches the good news in his home town.
