Introduction

 

On this feast of the Baptism of the Lord, we renew the promises we made at our own baptism: that we will be the Lord’s loyal followers and be generous with our lives in the way that he has shown us.

First Reading: Isaiah 40:1-5, 9-11

 

The Glory of the Lord will be revealed for all of us to see it.

 

Second Reading: Titus 2:11-14; 3:4-7

 

God has saved us through the cleansing water of rebirth and by renewing us with the Holy Spirit.

 

Gospel: Luke 3:15-16, 21-22

 

The Holy Spirit descends on Jesus at his baptism.

AUTOMATIC DEBIT

Automatic Debit is available for those St. Joseph’s parishioners wishing to have their Sunday Offering and/or Building Fund Collection debited directly from their bank account on a monthly basis. Those who wish to begin Automatic Debit are asked to visit the parish office to complete the necessary paperwork.

INCOME TAX RECEIPTS 2018 Income Tax Receipts are available for pick-up at the parish office.  To assist us with mailing costs, please drop in to pick yours up.

 

CATHOLIC WOMEN’S LEAGUE MEETINGS The General meeting will take place on Monday, 14 January 2019, at 7:00 p.m., in the parish hall.  The Annual Report will be given, and a new budget will also be presented.

 

CATHOLIC WOMENS LEAGUE MEMBERSHIP DRIVE The Catholic Women’s League is a national organization rooted in gospel values.  Memberships may be renewed on the weekends of 12-13 and 19-20 January 2019, at all Masses.  We welcome all new members, 16 years and older.  Cost remains at $20.00.  Add your voice and support to a national sisterhood which promotes faith, spirituality and awareness and responds to political and social issues that affect all Canadians.  You can make a difference.

 

BUILDING FUND  The monthly collection of the Building Fund will take place this weekend, 12-13 January 2019. Thank you for your support.

 

PARTNERS IN MISSION FOOD BANK Food Bags will be distributed this weekend, 12-13 January 2019, for return on the weekend of 19-20 January.  Thank you for your continued support.

 

HOSPITALITY SUNDAY The next Hospitality Sunday will take place on Sunday, 27 January 2019, after the 9:00 & 11:00 a.m. Masses.  If you are able to provide snacks, please sign up at the entrances.  Please join us for fellowship and refreshments.

 

SPIRITUAL INQUIRY This regular informal gathering begins the new year on Thursday,, 31 January 2019, from 7:00-8:30 p.m., in the parish hall.  To kick-off that evening, the topic will be, Elevator Theology – Who is this entity called God?  Encourage your friends and neighbours to join you that evening, as we explore this topic.

 

  1. BLAISE – BLESSING OF THE THROATS will take place on Monday, 4 February 2018, at the 9:00 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. Masses.

 

SOCIAL & ECOLOGICAL JUSTICE MEETING will take place on Wednesday,6 February 2019, at 7:00 p.m., in the sacristy.

 

SACRAMENTS OF FIRST RECONCILIATION &  FIRST COMMUNION All parents of grade two students who wish that their children celebrate the Sacraments of First Holy Communion and First Reconciliation here at St. Joseph’s are invited to attend a Parent Information Meeting on Tuesday, 19 February 2019, at 7:00 p.m. in St. Joseph’s parish hall.  Since this is the first planning meeting for the celebration of these Sacraments, it is particularly important that the parents of all children attend.  The Enrollment Ceremony will take place on 6-7 April 2019.

PRESENCE: The Mystery of the Eucharist is a new series on the ‘Source and Summit’ of our faith.  Starting Monday, 14 January 2019, for three consecutive weeks, we offer two sessions each day: Morning, 9:30-11:30 a.m. and Evening, 6:30-8:30 p.m.  Join us at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 1111 Taylor-Kidd Blvd., in the main hall.  We will look at ‘What is it that is so special about the Eucharist?’  No charge.  Register today online at www.stpaulkingston.com.  Everyone is welcome.  Sponsored by St. Paul’s Faith Development team.

 

REGIOPOLIS-NOTRE DAME CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL Grade 8 Information Night will take place on Wednesday, 16 January 2019, at 130 Russell Street.  International Baccalaureate Programme Information Session is from 5:30-6:20 p.m., in the Upper Room; General Information Session is at 6:30 p.m. in the Cafetorium.  Followed by an Open House of classrooms and displays in the school until 8:30 p.m.

 

SEPARATED AND/OR DIVORCED Are you, or someone you know, experiencing the trauma of a Separation and/or Divorce?  Where do you turn for help?  Come to the New Life Group Meeting:  a Catholic Ministry for the Separated and Divorced on alternate Tuesday evenings.  The next one will take place on Tuesday, 22 January 2019, from 7:30-9:00 p.m.  The topic will be, “Loneliness: Learning to Value Self,” group facilitated., at Francis J. PILGRIMAGE TO POLAND Divine Mercy Centre and Prague, Wroclaw, Krzeszow, Krakow, Lagiewniki, Czestochowa, Salt Mine Wieliczka, Aakopane, Wadowice and more, 5-15 May 2019.  Cost is $3200.00 CAD (taxes & gratuities included).  Under the spiritual guidance of Fr.
