Second Sunday in Ordinary Time

20 January 2019

“The steward tasted the water, and it had turned into wine.”

Introduction

In today’s Gospel, Jesus turns water into wine, and it is not the only transformation that takes place: sadness is turned into joy, and need into abundance.  We, too, are invited to change; we, too, may be filled again with the Holy Spirit.

Todays Readings

First Reading: Isaiah 62:1-5

As a bridegroom rejoices over his bride, so the Lord delights in his holy people.

Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 12:4-11

Each person is specially and uniquely gifted.  These gifts come from God, and they are given so that all may benefit.

Gospel: John 2:1-11

The wedding at Cana in Galilee was a sign of God’s love for us.  Jesus transforms us, too, that we might experience the Spirit-filled life.
