Christ is the light in our darkness.  He shows us the way to the Father.  Let us listen for his call today and follow him as his disciples.

Isaiah looks forward to a day when the people that have walked in darkness will have seen a great light.


Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 1:10-13, 17


Paul appeals for reconciliation between the divided groups of Corinth.


Gospel: Matthew 4:12-23


Jesus fulfils the prophecy of Isaiah and begins his public ministry by calling his first disciples to follow him in proclaiming the Good News of the kingdom.

INCOME TAX RECEIPTS 2019 Income Tax Receipts are available for pick-up at the back of the church this weekend.  To assist us with mailing costs, please drop by to pick yours up.


HOSPITALITY SUNDAY Hospitality Sunday will take place this  Sunday, 26 January 2020, after the 9:00 & 11:00 a.m. Masses.   Please join us for fellowship and refreshments.


CATHOLIC MISSIONS IN CANADA COLLECTION  A special Diocesan collection for Catholic Missions in Canada will be taken up next weekend, 1-2 February 2020.  This collection will be forwarded to the Archdiocese no later than 2 March 2020; please ensure that you have made your donation by this date.


  1. BLAISE – BLESSING OF THE THROATS will take place on Monday, 3 February 2020, at the 9:00 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. Masses.


FIRST RECONCILIATION &  FIRST HOLY COMMUNION All parents of grade two students who wish that their children celebrate the Sacraments of First Holy Communion and First Reconciliation here at St. Joseph’s are invited to visit the office to complete a Registration Form.  If your child attends St. Paul or St. Thomas More Catholic Schools, they will receive the form at school.  The Enrollment Ceremony will take place on 28-29 March 2020.  Classes for Public/Home school children will commence in February.  First Reconciliation will be held on Tuesday, 14 April 2020, at 7:00 p.m., and First Communion will take place on Sunday, 3 May 2020, at the 11:00 a.m. Mass.


CATHOLIC WOMEN’S LEAGUE MEMBERSHIP If you haven’t renewed your membership, or would like to become a new member, please put your name, address with postal code, phone number and email address, if you have one, on a piece of paper along with the fee of $20.00, in an envelope marked CWL, and put it in the collection basket, or take it to the parish office.  Thank you.




PRISON MINISTRY VOLUNTEER MUSICIAN(S) NEEDED The Catholic Chaplains at Collins Bay Institution (Red roof building on Bath Rd.) are looking for a Volunteer Musician to play and lead singing at the Catholic Liturgy on Monday evenings 6:00-7:30 p.m. If this is something you may be able to help with, or would like to explore, please contact Mary-Jo MacKinnon-Simms at the Archdiocese 613-548-4461 ext 115. ARCHDIOCESAN CELEBRATION  of the Rite of Election and Rite of Calling Baptized Candidates to Lenten Renewal will take place on Sunday, 1 March 2020, at 4:00 p.m., at St. Mary’s Cathedral, 270 Johnson Street. Archbishop Mulhall will celebrate the Rite of Election with Catechumens from the Archdiocese of Kingston. Following that, Candidates Baptized in other Church’s traditions, who are seeking full communion with the Catholic Church, will be celebrating the Rite of Calling to Lenten renewal. Parishioners, Sponsors, RCIA team members and pastors are welcome to attend this special event and to support our new brothers and sisters in faith. Refreshments will be served afterwards at St. Mary’ Parish Centre.


WINTER READING SERIES “An Astonishing Secret ‑ The Love Story of Creation and the Wonder of You” by Daniel O’Leary, will be held on Thursday,  13 & 27 February, and Wednesday, 11 & 25 March; 1:30‑3:30 p.m., at Providence Spirituality Centre.  For information, or to register, call by Monday, 31 January, at : 613‑542‑8826. $40/series.  Bring your own book, or books are available for purchase at the Centre for $30.


SEPARATED AND/OR DIVORCED Are you, or someone you know, experiencing the trauma of a Separation and/or Divorce?  Come to the New Life Group Meeting,  a Catholic Ministry for the Separated and Divorced, on alternate Tuesday evenings.  The next one will take place on Tuesday, 4 February 2020, from 7:30-9:30 p.m., at the Francis J. EIGHT DOORS TO THE KINGDOM PARISH MISSION The great French spiritual master, Father Jacques Philippe, is coming to St. Mary’s Cathedral, 279 Johnson Street.  He will preach at Sunday Masses on the First Sunday of Lent, 5:00 p.m. on 29 February, and 8:00 a.m. 10:30 a.m. & 7:00 p.m., on 1 March.  He will lead a Parish Mission on the Eight Beatitudes at 7:00 p.m., on 1-3 March.  For information, contact or Ann Lyng at, or Fr.
