The Epiphany of the Lord

3 January 2016

Where is the infant king of the Jews?

Introduction

The Epiphany of the Lord is a feast of light. Today we celebrate the “shining forth” or revelation of God to humanity in the person of Jesus Christ.

Todays Readings

First Reading: Isaiah 60:1-6

God’s presence is the light that illuminates a new future for God’s people, bringing deliverance and blessing.

Second Reading: Ephesians 3:2-3, 5-6

St. Paul says he was commissioned to make known to the world the grace of God that had descended upon everyone, including the pagans.

Gospel: Matthew 2:1-12

Wise men from the east are directed to Jesus by a star, and they fall on their knees to pay him homage and offer him gifts.
