Introduction

 

The example of the generosity of the poor widow is the benchmark for the followers of Jesus.

God rewards the widow who cares for Elijah.

 

Second Reading: Hebrews 9:24-28

 

Christ’s sacrifice has dealt with sin and death once and for all.

 

Gospel: Mark 12:38-44

 

Jesus uses the poor widow’s generosity to teach us that to be his disciples we are called to give ourselves totally.

AUTOMATIC DEBIT

 

Automatic Debit is available for those St. Joseph’s parishioners wishing to have their Sunday Offering and/or Building Fund Collection debited directly from their bank account on a monthly basis. Those who wish to begin Automatic Debit are asked to visit the parish office to complete the necessary paperwork.

 

OUR PARISH

 

SALVATION ARMY KETTLE DRIVE Again, this year, St. Joseph’s will be partnering with the Salvation Army Kettle Drive two days per week, Monday & Wednesday, at Loblaws, Kingston Centre.  Shifts are 1 hour long from 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m., each of the days selected beginning the week of 19 November 2018, and ending the week of 17 December 2018.  Parishioners are needed now to indicate their willingness to help, by contacting Bill at 613-547-3267, or bill.allen@cogeco.ca, or Sharon at 613-549-0559, or sharon.lillis48@gmail.com.

 

FOOD BAGS will be distributed this weekend 10-11 November 2018, for drop-off next weekend, 17-18 November.  Food from this collection will go towards the Christmas food hampers that volunteers from St. Joseph’s put together for fifty families in need.

 

BUILDING FUND  The monthly collection of the Building Fund will take place next weekend, 17-18 November 2018. Your support continues to make a difference.  Thank you.

 

CATHOLIC WOMENS LEAGUEThe CWL invites all members to celebrate a Mass for Deceased Members on Monday, 12 November 2018, at 5:15 p.m.  Bring a brown bag lunch and stay for the General Meeting, to be held at 6:15 p.m.  Our speakers will be Angela Lorbetskie, talking about the Youth Group, and Jane Watts, talking about Grandmother Connection.

 

PRIESTS RETIREMENT FUND supports the Archdiocesan program which provides elderly and infirm priests with the financial support they have earned after many years of service.  The Fund currently provides monthly pensions and health benefits for our retired priests.  We thank you for the generosity you have shown in the past, and we hope that you will generously support this year’s collection to be held this weekend, 10-11 November 2018.

 

CAMPAIGN LIFE COALITION CHRISTMAS CAKES will be on sale after all Masses on 17-18 and 24-25 November 2018.  Deluxe cakes are $25.00; Bar cakes are $18.00.  They make great gifts!

 

CELEBRATION OF MEMORY AND NEW LIFE A service for the bereaved will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, 25 November 2018, here at St. Joseph’s Church.  There will be a particular remembrance of loved ones who have died in the past year.  All are welcome, and you are especially encouraged to attend, if you have recently lost a close friend or member of your family.  Light refreshments will follow.

 

HOSPITALITY SUNDAY The next Hospitality Sunday will take place on Sunday, 25 November 2018, after the 9:00 & 11:00 a.m. Masses.  Please join us for fellowship and refreshments.  Our gracious hosts will be St. Joseph’s Hockey Team of the Church Athletic League.

 

SPIRITUALITY INQUIRY At the October Spiritual Inquiry session, there was so much discussion that it was agreed to continue with the theme “Dynamics of Catholic Marriage in a Secular Society.”  Part 2 of this topic will take place on Thursday, 29 November 2018, from 7:00-8:30 p.m.  Bring along friends, neighbours and spouse.

 

ANNUAL CRAFT, BAKE SALE & THEMED BASKET RAFFLE The Catholic Women’s League will be holding their annual fundraiser after all Masses on 1-2 December 2018.  We will have homemade crafts, homemade pies, breads, cookies and other goodies for sale.  Tickets for Baskets will be drawn 2 December after the 11:00 a.m. Mass.

 

CHRISTMAS CONCERT Join us for an afternoon of Christmas music, featuring the local talent of Chris Murphy, Jon McLurg and Brian Flynn, (three members of the band, Turpin’s Trail) in the church on Thursday, 13 December 2018, from 1:00-3:00 p.m.  Refreshments will be served in the parish hall; a free-will offering would be gratefully appreciated.

 

PENANCE CELEBRATION The Advent Penance Celebration for St. Joseph’s will be held on Sunday, 16 December 2018, at 2:00 p.m.  Following a brief liturgy, all will have the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation.  A number of visiting clergy will be present for this celebration, and all in the parish, and indeed from outside the parish, are most welcome to attend.

SEPARATED AND/OR DIVORCED Are you, or is someone you know, experiencing the trauma of a Separation and/or Divorce?  Come to the New Life Group Meeting, a Catholic Ministry for the Separated and Divorced on alternate Tuesday evenings.  The next meeting will take place Tuesday, 20 November 2018, at the Francis J. Spence Pastoral Centre, 390 Palace Road, from 7:30-9:00 p.m.  The topic will be, “Grieving Process: Moving Towards Acceptance.”

 

JOURNEYS TO JUSTICE: SOCIAL JUSTICE – RESPONDING TO THE CALL The Justice & Peace Commission of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Kingston and the Anglican Diocese of Ontario invites you to an evening of shared experiences.  Speaker, and author of the book, Journeys to Justice, Joe Gunn, will share stories of social justice struggles across Canada.  Join us on Tuesday, 20 November 2018, 6:30-8;30 p.m., at St. Luke’s Anglican Church, 236 Nelson Street.  There will also be a panel discussion on local human trafficking, refugee sponsorship and social housing models.
