On this final Sunday in the Church’s year, we celebrate Jesus Christ as King. He is the first and the last, the Alpha and the Omega of our lives.

OUR PARISH

 

CONFIRMATION We welcome Archbishop O’Brien to St. Joseph’s today. He will confer the Sacrament of Confirmation on 37 young people of our parish. Please remember them in your prayers.

 

CAMPAIGN LIFE COALITION CHRISTMAS CAKES Delicious custom-baked Christmas Cakes will be sold at all Masses this weekend, 21-22 November 2015. For a donation of $25.00 to Campaign Life Coalition’s Pro-life work, you will receive a beautiful boxed 900g. Christmas cake in a decorative tin. We also have 680g. Cake for $15.00. ANNUAL CHRISTMAS BAKE & CRAFT SALE The Catholic Women’s League will be hosting their Annual Christmas Bake & Craft Sale this weekend, 21-22 November 2015, after all Masses. There will also be a Themed Basket Raffle. Cakes, pies, breads & cookies, etc., will be available. If any parishioners have crafts that they would like to donate, please bring to the parish office.

 

CULTURE OF LIFE INFORMATION MEETING “Choose Life…Life is sacred from conception to natural death.” An information meeting will take place on Monday, 23 November 2015, at 7:00 p.m. Anyone interested in volunteering with the Culture of Life is encouraged to attend this information session. HOSPITALITY SUNDAY The next Hospitality Sunday will take place on Sunday, 29 November 2015, after the 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. Masses. If you are willing to bring squares, cookies or loaves for this event, please sign up on the sheets provided at the church entrances. Your hosts for this Hospitality Sunday will be the St. Joseph’s Hockey Association.

 

SPIRITUAL INQUIRY The next “Spiritual Inquiry” gathering will be held on Monday, 30 November 2015, from 7:00-8:30 p.m., in the parish hall. Those in attendance will be able to pose questions, offer reflections or make comments regarding religion, faith or spirituality and respond to the queries/comments raised by others. Previous gatherings have been insightful, inspiring and well-attended. Join us in this unstructured and informal evening of conversation and casual reflection. Tea and coffee will be offered.

 

PENANCE CELEBRATION The Advent Penance Celebration for St. Joseph’s will be held on Sunday, 6 December 2015, at 2:00 p.m. Following a brief liturgy, all will have the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. A number of visiting clergy will be present for this celebration, and all in the parish, and indeed from outside the parish, are most welcome to attend.

 

CHRISTMAS MUSICAL AFTERNOON The Entertainment Committee of the St. Joseph’s Pastoral Council is sponsoring an afternoon of musical entertainment, featuring the local talent of Chris Murphy, Jon McLurg and Brian Flynn, in the church on Thursday, 10 December 2015, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Refreshments will be served; a free-will offering would be appreciated.

URGENT NEED FOR GENTLY USED WINTER COATS The Hotel Dieu Hospital/St. Mary’s Cathedral Coat Drive is in urgent need of gently used winter coats (especially down-filled/ski jacket styes) after an unexpected surge of requests in the early days of distribution. In particular, men’s large/extra-large sizes are needed, plus mitts, gloves, hats and socks. All items may be dropped off in the collection bin at the Sydenham Street entrance of Hotel Dieu Hospital. THE SOUNDS OF CHRISTMAS CANDLELIGHT SERVICE will be held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Westport Road, on Sunday, 29 November 2015, at 6:00 p.m. A free-will offering will be accepted. Refreshments to follow.

 

BE PART OF OUR CLIMATE VIGIL As part of Development and Peace’s campaign, Create a Climate of Change, prayer vigils are being organized all across Canada. Through prayer, silence and music, our Kingston vigil will be a moment to pray and be in solidarity with our sisters and brothers in the Global South who are currently experiencing the worst impacts of climate change. We will also pray for our leaders who will be at the COP21 negotiations in Paris, so that they come to an agreement that will address climate change. The Vigil will take place at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 490 Days Road, on Monday, 30 November 2015, from 7:00-8:00 p.m.

 

SEPARATED AND/OR DIVORCED The New Life Support Group meets on alternate Tuesday evenings at 390 Palace Road, Kingston. OPEN HOUSE INVITATION The Cursillo Movement of the Archdiocese of Kingston invites you to join us for an evening of fellowship, food, song, and laughter as we approach this spiritual season.
