Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe

25 November 2018

“My kingdom is not of this world.”

Introduction

The celebration of Christ the King invites us to place Christ at the centre of our lives and follow the example of Jesus the servant king in our attitudes and actions.

Todays Readings

First Reading: Daniel 7:13-14

The prophet Daniel sees a new king coming in glory.

Second Reading: Apocalypse 1:5-8

Jesus Christ will gather all people into his embrace of mercy when he comes in glory.

Gospel: John 18:33-37

Jesus is a witness to the gift of the kingdom of God.  We catch glimpses of this kingdom when we see people living the values of justice, love, truth and peace.

CAMPAIGN LIFE COALITION CHRISTMAS CAKES will be on sale after all Masses this weekend, 24-25 November 2018.  Deluxe cakes are $25.00; Bar cakes are $18.00.  They make great gifts!

HOLY HOCKEY – THE STORY OF CANADA’S FLYING FATHERS

by Frank Cosentino.  The Flying Fathers Hockey Club began in 1964, “a bunch of priests playing hockey,” developed in to a spiritual and spirited journey for players, coaches and especially “hockey fans” – fans of the Canadian pastime.  This easy-flowing narrative brings together the passion for God with the passion for hockey.  The book will be available for sale at the parish office, during office hours.  Sales at the church entrances will take place 8-9 and 15-16 December.  Cost is $30.00.  This is a project of the St. Joseph’s Knights of Columbus.  A great gift for all ages!

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS COAT DRIVE for Hotel Dieu Hospital will take place until 31 December 2018.  Warm, washable winter coats (especially large sizes for men and women) are needed.  Ski jackets in all sizes are also needed.  We will also accept washable thermal socks, mitts, hats, blankets and winter boots.  We will pick up items if needed, or they may be dropped off.  Call Dwight at 613-544-6738 to make arrangements.  Items will be distributed at St. Mary’s Parish Centre, Brock Street, from 2-18 January 2019.

ANNUAL CRAFT, BAKE SALE & THEMED BASKET RAFFLE The Catholic Women’s League will be holding their annual fundraiser after all Masses on 1-2 December 2018.  We will have homemade crafts, homemade pies, breads, cookies and other goodies for sale.  Tickets for Baskets will be drawn on 2 December after the 11:00 a.m. Mass.

CHRISTMAS EVE PAGEANT We are looking for children to fulfill various roles in the Christmas Eve Pageant and Christmas Eve Children’s Choir.  If your child is age 4 or older, and would like to participate in this year’s Nativity pageant at the 5:15 p.m. Christmas Eve Mass, please plan to attend upcoming practices at the church.  The pageant is narrated, and therefore the children do not have speaking roles; so even the shiest can participate.  Older students are encouraged to take part, as we always need readers for Narrator, Lector and Prayer of the Faithful.  All are welcome! Children, grade 3 and up are also invited to rehearse for the Children’s Choir on Christmas Eve.  There will be four rehearsals for the pageant and choir on Sunday, 2, 9, 16 and 23 December, from noon until 1:00 p.m. (immediately following the 11:00 a.m. Mass), for both the pageant and the choir in the church.  For information, contact sheilafowler16@gmail.com.
