24th Sunday in Ordinary Time

13 September 2015

“If anyone wants to be a follower of mine, let him renounce himself and take up his cross and follow me.”

Introduction

We know from experience that every life contains some suffering. Today Jesus invites us to join our suffering to his, sharing his faith in his Father, and thus breaking through to resurrection and eternal life.

Todays Readings

First Reading: Isaiah 50:5-9

The prophet foretells Christ’s total trust in his Father at the time of his passion.

Second Reading: James 2:14-18

The apostle teaches that faith in God should lead us to active charity.

Gospel: Mark 8:27-35

Jesus explains that suffering and surrender into God’s hands are the necessary prelude to eternal happiness.
