25th Sunday in Ordinary Time

20 September 2015

“If anyone wants to be first, he must make himself last of all and servant of all.”

Introduction

In our relations with one another, do we always want to be in control? Or are we willing to take the risk, as Christ commanded, of serving one another in humility?

Todays Readings

First Reading: Wisdom 2:12, 17, 20

Those who are just will suffer for their virtuous life.

Second Reading: James 3:16-4:3

Real prayer can overcome the violence that arises in us because of our thwarted desires.

Gospel: Mark 9:30-37

Jesus tells us that true leadership will only be effective through humble service.

COLLECTION FOR THE NEEDS OF THE CHURCH IN CANADA: WHY IS THERE SUCH A COLLECTION? Every year, the Bishops of Canada make an appeal for financial assistance to support their work and the work of each diocese by means of the Collection for the Needs of the Church in Canada. The annual Collections allows each diocese to meet its financial obligations to the regional episcopal assemblies and to the national episcopal Conference. The Collection for the Needs of the Church in Canada will be held 26-27 September 2015. Through your contribution, you too can collaborate with the Bishops in their ministry to teach, sanctify and govern.
