18th Sunday in Ordinary Time

2 August 2015

“I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never be hungry; he who believes in me will never thirst.”

“I am the bread of life,” expresses Jesus’ saving relationship towards the world. He asks us to place God firmly in our plans if we are to lead faithful lives.

Todays Readings

First Reading: Exodus 16:2-4, 12-15

God provides manna in the desert for the people of Israel who have recently fled Egypt. It is a story of God’s abundant provision and care for God’s people.

Second Reading: Ephesians 4:17, 20-24

Paul explains that a Christian life is a fundamentally changed life, one that requires a change of spirituality and lifestyle.

Gospel: John 6:24-35

Jesus tells the people that the bread they are seeking is not the food but himself. “I am the bread of life,” he says.
