The Transfiguration of the Lord
6 August 2017
“Lord, it is wonderful for us to be here.”
On the way to Jerusalem, the disciples are given a “glimpse of glory.” Reflecting on the transfiguration of Jesus helps us, too, to grasp something of our true destination, which will take us beyond death to the glory of heaven.
First Reading: Daniel 7:9-10, 13-14
In his vision of heaven, Daniel sees coming on the clouds of heaven a human being who receives sovereignty, glory and kingship.
Second Reading: 2 Peter 1:16-19
Peter gives his version of what he saw and heard on the holy mountain.
Gospel: Matthew 17:1-9
Jesus is transfigured in the presence of the disciples Peter, James and John.
