19th Sunday in Ordinary Time

9 August 2015

“Your fathers ate the manna in the desert and they are dead; but this is the bread that comes down from heaven so that a man may eat it and not die.”

Introduction

We all tend to be very good at complaining about life’s difficulties. Jesus tells us to focus on what really matters: life lived to the full through giving and receiving love.

Todays Readings

First Reading: 1 Kings 19:4-8

Elijah complains that he has suffered enough. God feeds him and sends him on his way.

Second Reading: Ephesians 4:30 – 5:2

We are encouraged to stop our bad behaviour and to follow Jesus’ example.

Gospel: John 6:41-51

Jesus told the people to stop complaining and to look for real food, the living bread that guarantees eternal life.

CURSILLO IN THE ARCHDIOCESE OF KINGSTON All Cursillistas are invited to a meeting to help re-establish the Cursillo movement in the Archdiocese. In our day, there is a real hunger for Jesus and the Gospel, and the cursillo is a way of meeting this desire and need. With the approval of Archbishop O’Brien, this is a call to all cursillistas to come together (Ultreya), to celebrate Mass, to experience small group reunion and participate in the re-founding of cursillo in the Archdiocese and to go forward. Please mark your calendar, 26 September 2015, at St. John the Apostle Parish (Patrick & Quebec Streets). You are asked to pre-regsiter to Friar Ed Debono, eddebono@aol.com, with your name, address, phone number and email. Information with regard to time, and other particulars, will be forwarded to you by email. Remember the Mananita? It was a wake-up call. Pope Francis has said, “I’m counting on you to wake up the world.” Join the re-establishment of the Cursillo movement.
