First Sunday of Lent
18 February 2018
“‘The time has come,’ he said ‘and the kingdom of God is close at hand.’”
Introduction
As we begin Lent together, we are made aware of how we too are tested and meet God and God’s adversaries in the wilderness of our lives. We hope for the same angelic support that Jesus found as he began his public calling to the proclamation of the Good News from God.
Today’s Readings
First Reading: Genesis 9:8-15
God gives us the rainbow as a sign of God’s everlasting covenant with humankind.
Second Reading: 1 Peter 3:18-22
God’s will is to save us all. Baptism is God’s pledge to us of this desire.
Gospel: Mark 1:12-15
After being tempted in the wilderness by Satan, Jesus begins his proclamation of the Good News from God.
