Be holy, for I, the Lord your God, am holy.




We are called to be holy, just as God is holy.  We are to love one another, not just those who are close to us, but those from afar and those we might even consider to be enemies.

Automatic Debit is available for those St. Joseph’s parishioners wishing to have their Sunday Offering and/or Building Fund Collection debited directly from their bank account on a monthly basis. Those who wish to begin Automatic Debit are asked to visit the parish office to complete the necessary paperwork.




HOSPITALITY SUNDAY Hospitality Sunday will take place this weekend, 23 February 2020, after the 9:00 & 11:00 a.m. Masses.  If you are able to provide snacks, please sign up at the entrances.  Please join us for fellowship and refreshments.


ASH WEDNESDAY MASSES Ashes will be distributed at the 9:00 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. Masses, and at the 10:30 a.m. School Mass on Wednesday, 26 February 2020.


STATIONS OF THE CROSS During the weeks of Lent, the Stations of the Cross will be said on Friday evenings, following the 5:15 p.m. Mass.  Al  are warmly welcomed to this beautiful prayer of the Church.


YOUTH GROUP will gather on Friday, 6 March, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., and Saturday, 7 March, from 1:00-4:00 p.m., to practice for the 9th Annual Lenten Presentation.  Students wishing to participate in the Lenten presentation must make the commitment to attend all practices.  For information, contact Angela at 613-547-8116, or Alison at


CATHOLIC WOMEN’S LEAGUE ANNUAL SPRING BAKE SALE will take place on 7-8 March 2020, after all Masses.  There will be pies, cookies, squares, loaves, scones and many other delicious goodies.  Be sure to visit the Parish Hall to see all that is available.


FIRST RECONCILIATION &  FIRST HOLY COMMUNION All parents of grade two students who wish that their children celebrate the Sacraments of First Holy Communion and First Reconciliation here at St. Joseph’s are invited to visit the office to complete a Registration Form.  If your children attend St. Paul or St. Thomas More Catholic Schools, they will receive the form at school.  The Enrollment Ceremony will take place at the Masses on 28-29 March 2020.  Classes for Public/Home school children will commence in February.  First Reconciliation will be held on Tuesday, 14 April 2020, at 7:00 p.m., and First Communion will take place on Sunday, 3 May 2020, at the 11:00 a.m. Mass.


MUSICAL AFTERNOON On Thursday, 12 March 2020, from 1:00‑3:00 p.m., the Social Committee of the St. Joseph’s Pastoral Council will provide an afternoon of musical entertainment, featuring Chris Murphy, Jon McLurg and Brian Flynn, for those who are Irish and for those who “wish they were.”  Please join us in the church for an opportunity to enjoy local musicians.  Light refreshments will be.  Come and bring a friend or two!  A free‑will monetary offering would be appreciated.


LENTEN PENANCE CELEBRATION The Lenten Penance Celebration for St. Joseph’s will be held on Sunday, 22 March 2020, at 2:00 p.m.  Following a brief liturgy, all will have the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation.  A number of visiting clergy will be present for this celebration, and all in the parish, and indeed from outside the parish, are most welcome to attend.  

With absolution, we are reconciled to God and the Church.


CHRISM MASS 2020 Celebrated by Archbishop Michael Mulhall and the Clergy of the Archdiocese.  This Mass is a manifestation of the communion of the clergy with their Archbishop.  All priests and deacons will renew their ordination promises, and the oils used for the Sacramental life of the Church will be blessed and distributed.  All parishioners are invited to attend on Tuesday, 7 April 2020, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Mary’s Cathedral.  Reception to follow.




FLOURISH WOMENS MINISTRY aims to provide women (21+) with a forum for fellowship & faith formation according to the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.  Please join us every 4th Thursday, starting 27 February 2020, from 7:30-9:00 p.m., at St. Mary’s Parish Centre, 260 Brock Street.  For information, contact  The topic on 27 February is “Theology of the Body – The Feminine Genius,” 26 March is “The Temperament God Gave You.”


ARCHDIOCESAN CELEBRATION  of the Rite of Election and Rite of Calling Baptized Candidates to Lenten Renewal will take place on Sunday, 1 March 2020, at 4:00 p.m., at St. Mary’s Cathedral, 279 Johnson Street. Archbishop Mulhall will celebrate the Rite of Election with Catechumens from the Archdiocese of Kingston. Following this, Candidates Baptized in other Church’s traditions, who are seeking full communion with the Catholic Church, will be celebrating the Rite of Calling to Lenten renewal. Parishioners, Sponsors, RCIA team members and pastors are welcome to attend this special event and to support our new brothers and sisters in faith. Refreshments will be served afterwards at St. Mary’ Parish Centre.


EIGHT DOORS TO THE KINGDOM PARISH MISSION The great French spiritual master, Father Jacques Philippe, is coming to St. Mary’s Cathedral, 279 Johnson Street.  He will preach at Sunday Masses on the First Sunday of Lent, 5:00 p.m. on 29 February, and 8:00 a.m. 10:30 a.m. & 7:00 p.m., on 1 March.  He will lead a Parish Mission on the Eight Beatitudes at 7:00 p.m., on 2-4 March.  For further information, contact Ann Lyng at


SEPARATED AND/OR DIVORCED Come to the New Life Group Meeting,  a Catholic Ministry for the Separated and Divorced, on alternate Tuesday evenings.  The next one will take place on Tuesday, 3 March 2020, from 7:30-9:30 p.m., at the Francis J. BUS TRIP FROM ST. MARY’S CATHEDRAL TO THE “LIFT JESUS HIGH RALLY” on Saturday, 7 March 2020. Bus leaves St. Mary’s Cathedral at 5:00 a.m. and returns to Kingston approximately 9:00 p.m. Cost of round trip transportation (dinner not included) is $80.
