Second Sunday of Lent

25 February 2018

Listen to him.

Introduction

God our Father sent his Son into the world for the benefit of us all, St. Paul tells us today.  We are invited to listen to him and to allow his words to transform us.  Let us give thanks to God for such boundless loving kindness.

Todays Readings

First Reading: Genesis 22:1-2, 9-13, 15-18

Abraham’s faith is tested.  God showers blessings on him.

Second Reading: Romans 8:31-34

God our Father has given us all that is most precious by sending his Son.  We stand acquitted – God is on our side.

Gospel: Mark 9:2-10

At the transfiguration, the identity of Jesus is revealed.  But the meaning of his identity is something which the disciples still struggle to grasp.
