Today begins the season known as Ordinary Time, but even in Ordinary Time the Lord is as close as ever to bless us with word and sacrament.

First Reading: Isaiah 49:3, 5-6


In this, the second of the “Servant Songs,” a mysterious servant is called upon to be a light to the nations.


Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 1:1-3


At the start of his first letter to the Corinthians, Paul sends greetings to “the holy people of Jesus Christ.”


Gospel: John 1:29-34


John the Baptist points to Jesus as the one who “existed before me” and who is to “baptize with the Holy Spirit.”

Automatic Debit is available for those St. Joseph’s parishioners wishing to have their Sunday Offering and/or Building Fund Collection debited directly from their bank account on a monthly basis. Those who wish to begin Automatic Debit are asked to visit the parish office to complete the necessary paperwork.



INCOME TAX RECEIPTS 2019 Income Tax Receipts are available for pick-up at the parish office.  To assist us with mailing costs, please drop in to pick yours up.


PARISH VISITOR PROGRAM St. Joseph’s Parish Council is exploring the possibility of establishing a Parish Visitor program.  It would be the purpose of this undertaking to provide a stronger link with the Parish for those who might be confined to their homes or places of greater care, especially in the winter season.  Parish visitors would be comprised of teams of two people, with each person being appropriately trained and screened.  If you would like to learn more about being a Parish Visitor, you are asked to contact the Parish Office at 613-547-5004.  Similarly, if you would like to receive a Parish Visitor team in your home, please contact the Parish Office at 613-547-5004.  Thank you.


KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS wishes to thank all who participated in the Hotel Dieu Hospital Coat/Winter Accessories Drive this past December.  Your generosity saw some 277 items, including 41 coats, donated to help those less fortunate and in need of winter warmth.  The support of St. Joseph’s Knights of Columbus projects by you, the parishioners, allows us to help our community.  God Bless.



  • Membership Drive will take place this weekend, 18-19 January 2020, at all Masses. Membership fee remains at $20.00.  We welcome all ladies over 16 years to join and help celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the League.  Add your voice and support to a national sisterhood which promotes faith, spirituality, awareness, and responds to social issues affecting all Canadians.  You can make a difference.


MINISTRY FAIR This weekend, 18-19 January 2020, after all Masses, the Parish Engagement Group will host a Ministry Fair in the parish hall.  The various Parish Ministries will be highlighted, indicating how they each enrich the daily life of St. Joseph’s.  When you volunteer for a Ministry, you show what kind of parish you want to belong to!


CHILDRENS FOLK CHOIR Children who are interested in participating in the Children’s Folk Choir are invited to sing at the 11:00 a.m. Mass on Sunday, 26 January 2020.  We will have a practice this Sunday, 19 January 2020, from noon-1:00 p.m., in the church.  For inquiries, please contact Sheila at

HOSPITALITY SUNDAY Hospitality Sunday will take place next Sunday, 26 January 2020, after the 9:00 & 11:00 a.m. Masses.  If you are able to provide snacks, please sign up at the entrances.  Please join us for fellowship and refreshments.


URGENT CALL – PROVIDENCE CARE HOSPITAL SITE VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES Providence Care needs volunteers from parishes in the Archdiocese of Kingston to help the Roman Catholic patients and clients attend Sunday Mass held at 2:00 p.m.  Responsibilities include pushing wheelchairs and walking alongside persons who require assistance/supervision.  If you feel God is calling you to this ministry, please contact Chris O’Connor, Volunteer Coordinator for Inpatient Activities & Youth Volunteer Programs, at, or at 613-544-4900 x 53058, or  


SACRAMENTS OF FIRST RECONCILIATION &  FIRST COMMUNION All parents of grade two students who wish that their children celebrate the Sacraments of First Holy Communion and First Reconciliation here at St. Joseph’s are invited to visit the office to complete a Registration Form.  If your child attends St. Paul or St. Thomas More Catholic Schools, they will receive the form at school.  The Enrollment Ceremony will take place on 28-29 March 2020.  Classes for Public/Home school children will commence in February.  First Reconciliation will be held on Tuesday, 14 April 2020, at 7:00 p.m., and First Communion will take place on Sunday, 3 May 2020, at the 11:00 a.m. Mass.




ARCHDIOCESAN WORKSHOP FOR PARISH MUSICIANS: MUSIC FOR HOLY WEEK & EASTER will take place on 1 February 2020, at St. John Bosco Church, Brockville, and 8 February 2020, at Holy Rosary Church, Belleville, from 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.  Lunch is included.  Free-will offering.  Registration is required one week prior to workshop.  Call Gorett at the Diocesan Centre at 613-548-4461, or email


EIGHT DOORS TO THE KINGDOM PARISH MISSION The great French spiritual master, Father Jacques Philippe, is coming to St. Mary’s Cathedral, 279 Johnson Street.  He will preach at Sunday Masses on the First Sunday of Lent, 5:00 p.m. on 29 February, and 8:00 a.m. 10:30 a.m. & 7:00 p.m., on 1 March.  He will lead a Parish Mission on the Eight Beatitudes at 7:00 p.m., on 1-3 March.  For further information, contact or Ann Lyng at, or Fr.
