Second Sunday of Lent
12 March 2017

“This is my Son, the Beloved; he enjoys my favour.”

Jesus is truly God and truly human. The Father reveals his identity in front of the disciples and, in turn, shows us who we are as beloved members of Christ’s body.

Today’s Readings

First Reading: Genesis 12:1-4

Abraham is called to step out in faith with the promise of manifold blessings.

Second Reading: 2 Timothy 1:8-10

God has called us from beyond all time, and we are encouraged to lean on God’s power in our journey of discipleship.

Gospel: Matthew 17:1-9

Peter, James and John witness the transfiguration of Jesus and hear the Father’s voice confirming his delight in him.

ST. JOSEPH’S VISITOR PROGRAMME A number of parishioners of St. Joseph’s may find it increasingly difficult to get out much, particularly in these winter months. Even getting to church may be a challenge, and yet you would like to keep contact with your parish. You may be living in your own home, a seniors’ residence or a nursing home.

If you, or someone whom you know, would appreciate having someone visit on behalf of the parish, please phone the parish office at 613-547-5004, and make arrangements for a visit. We look forward to hearing from you.

JOIN THE CALL FOR CONSCIENCE until 31 March The Ontario Government has introduced Bill 84, Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) Statute Law Amendment Act, which, at present, does not provide conscience protection for doctors and health care providers who conscientiously object to taking part in Medical Assisted Dying. A “Call for Conscience” campaign has been initiated to encourage Ontario residents to write to their local MPP asking them to protect conscience rights – in particular, to support an amendment to Bill 84 that would provide conscience protection for doctors and health care providers and create a care coordination service which protects both patients and health care workers.
