First Sunday of Lent
5 March 2017
“Adam prefigured the One to come, but the gift itself considerably outweighed the fall.”
Introduction
The season of Lent summons us to turn our faces to the Lord and allow the gaze of his mercy to touch our hearts. We pray that, through the generosity of our Lenten observances, our hearts may be more loving towards our neighbours.
Today’s Readings
First Reading: Genesis 2:7-9; 3:1-7
Adam and Eve succumb to the temptation of the serpent and eat of the tree forbidden to them by God.
Second Reading: Romans 5:12-19
Jesus Christ gives the utterly free gift of salvation to all people.
Gospel: Matthew 4:1-11
Jesus fights the temptation of the devil and reminds us to worship God alone.

OUR PARISH
ST. JOSEPH’S VISITOR PROGRAMME A number of parishioners of St. Joseph’s may find it increasingly difficult to get out much, particularly in these winter months. Even getting to church may be a challenge, and yet you would like to keep contact with your parish. You may be living in your own home, a seniors’ residence or a nursing home.
If you, or someone whom you know, would appreciate having someone visit on behalf of the parish, please phone the parish office at 613-547-5004, and make arrangements for a visit. We look forward to hearing from you.
STATIONS OF THE CROSS During the weeks of Lent, the Stations of the Cross will be said on Friday evenings, following the 5:15 p.m. Mass. All are warmly welcomed to this beautiful prayer of the Church.

We will be offering cakes, pies, cookies, bars, squares, brownies, fudge, etc. that will easily freeze until after Lent, if need be! Come check it out and support your CWL ladies as they strive to emulate the good works of our Lord throughout the year with the help of the Holy Spirit that lives within each of us.
