Second Sunday of Lent

8 March 2020

Jesus led them up a high mountain where they could be alone.

Introduction

Many biblical events happen on high mountains, like the temptation of Jesus in last week’s Gospel.  Today, Jesus takes Peter, James and John up a high mountain where they are given a glimpse of heavenly glory.

Todays Readings

First Reading: Genesis 12:1-4

Abraham is called by the Lord to leave his home and to travel to a new land where he and his descendants will be blessed.

Second Reading: 2 Timothy 1:8-10

St. Paul had to bear hardships for the sake of the Gospel, relying on the power of God, and invites us to be willing to do the same.

Gospel: Matthew 17:1-9

Jesus is transfigured in heavenly glory, along with the prophets Moses and Elijah.
