Introduction

 

The Holy Spirit enables the gospel to be heard all over the world, bringing to birth new children for God who will make God’s transforming love alive through their active fidelity.

First Reading: Acts 2:1-11

 

When the Holy Spirit came upon the apostles, people from all over the world heard the Good News proclaimed in their own language.

Second Reading: Romans 8:8-17

 

The Spirit of God raises us to new life as children of God.

 

Gospel: John 14:15-16, 23-26

 

Jesus promises that the Holy Spirit will remain with the disciples, to teach them and remind them of all he has taught.

Automatic Debit is available for those St. Joseph’s parishioners wishing to have their Sunday Offering and/or Building Fund Collection debited directly from their bank account on a monthly basis.

 

Those who wish to begin Automatic Debit, are asked to visit the parish office to complete the necessary paperwork.

YEAR OF MERCY VOLUNTEER POSITIONS In this Year of Mercy, St. Joseph’s Parish will be showcasing a variety of volunteer possibilities. Over the following weeks, we will provide information regarding those activities needing volunteers.

 

LUNCH BY GEORGE – Volunteers are needed to prepare, cook, serve and clean-up. It is operated by Outreach St. Georges Kingston. All are welcome, regardless of gender, age, or background. No questions asked. They normally serve 40-50 people per day, with an occasional spike to the 60-70 range, and over 100 at the Christmas meal. It operates five days per week, from 9:00-11:30 a.m. Call Jenny Hurd at 613-548-4617 ext 30 on weekday mornings for information.

 

LEGION OF MARY PRAYER REQUEST CARD If you have any prayer requests or needs, please let us know and let us pray for you by filling out a Prayer Request Card, found at each of the entrances, and placing it in the box indicated in the St. Joseph’s Room. Submit as many prayer requests as you wish!

 

  1. JOSEPHS ROOM MEDIA RESOURCES Would you like to grow in your understanding of the Catholic faith? We are happy to announce that we now have Catholic Lighthouse Media resources available in the St. Joseph’s Room. These books and audio CDs, by some of the most well known and engaging Catholic writers and speakers in the world today, cover many different topics of interest. Stop in to pick up something that interests you or that would make a good gift for someone else. If you’ve enjoyed the resource, be sure to share it with others! To help cover some of the expenses, the suggested donation for books and CDs is $5.00 each, while pamphlets are free.

 

PARTNERS IN MISSION FOOD BANK Food Bags will be collected this weekend, 14-15 May. Thank you for your support.

 

  1. JOSEPH PARISH YOUTH GROUP is meeting at St. Mary’s Parish Centre on Tuesday, 17 May 2016, for our Pilgrimage to see the Door of Mercy, and a tour of the Cathedral. Any interested youth are asked to meet at the Parish Centre at 6:25 p.m. to gather before the tour. Please register your attendance with Angela at 613-547-8116.

 

FLORES DE MAYO The Filipino Canadian Community is celebrating the 11th year of Flores de Mayo, in honour of our Blessed Mother, Mary, on Sunday, 22 May 2016, here at St. Joseph’s, beginning with the Rosary at 3:00 p.m., followed by Mass at 3:30 p.m. , and the Blessing of the Blessed Virgin Mary statue. Rev. Msgr. Joseph Lynch is presiding. All are welcome. Reception in the parish hall after Mass.

 

CONVERSATIONS THAT MATTER is an information session with guest presenter Dr. Neil Elford, Director for Spiritual Health, Mission & Ethics at Providence Care and Holtel Dieu Hospital, and discussion on Thursday, 26 May 2016, from 7:00-8:30 p.m. in the parish hall. Topics that will be covered are Advance Care Planning, Palliative Care and Physician Assisted Death.

 

HOSPITALITY SUNDAY The next Hospitality Sunday will take place on Sunday, 29 May2016, after the 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. Masses, and will be hosted by the Legion of Mary. We invite you to our fellowship and thank you for responding to our prayer requests. We will have Miraculous Medals and prayer cards available in addition to the food. If you are willing to bring squares, cookies or loaves to these Hospitality Sundays, please sign up on the sheets provided at the church entrances.

POST-SYNODAL APOSTOLIC EXHORTATION On 8 April 2016, the Holy Father, Pope Francis, released the Apostolic Exhortation, Amoris Laetitia (The Joy of Love), as a follow-up to the 2015 Synod on the Family. CURSILLISTAS You are invited to an ULTREYA on Sunday, 15 May 2016, at St. Patrick School, 158 Patrick Street, Kingston. The Ultreya will start at 2:00 p.m. and will consist of a witness talk, response, small groups, music and prayer.   1. MICHAEL’S PARISH MISSION with Fr. Dan Cambra, MIC,

from 21-25 May 2016. In the Jubilee Year of Mercy, several parishes in the Archdiocese have scheduled Fr. Cambra for parish missions. We will be the first parish to receive him. He is a member of the Marians of the Immaculate Conception who are in charge of the Divine Mercy Shrine in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. He is a gifted preacher who has presented missions in a multitude of parishes. The mission begins on 21 May with Fr. Cambra preaching at all parish Masses and continues with evening mission gatherings on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.   A great opportunity for faith renewal in the Year of Mercy!

 

50th ANNIVERSARY OF ORDINATION On the occasion of his 50th anniversary of Ordination to the Holy Priesthood, Father John (Jack) F. Grainger, together with his family, cordially invites you to join with him in celebrating a Holy Mass of Thanksgiving on 29 May 2016, at 2:30 p.m., at the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, 279 Johnson Street.
