Sixth Sunday of Easter

6 May 2018

What I command you is to love one another.

Introduction

In these days of Easter we reflect on how the apostles grew in their awareness of the risen Lord in their lives, and we pray for the transforming power of the Holy Spirit to enable us to know that Jesus is with us today, helping us to love one another just as he has loved us.

Todays Readings

First Reading: Acts 10:25-26, 34-35, 44-48

Peter comes to know that the gift of the Holy Spirit is not limited to a select few, but is meant for all people.

Second Reading: 1 John 4:7-10

God’s love was revealed when God sent his only Son so that we could have life through him.

Gospel: John 15:9-17

The disciples are not servants but friends of Jesus whom he has chosen and sent into the world to bear fruit that will last.

OUR PARISH

A MESSAGE FROM THE PASTOR: You may have noticed that, on several occasions in the last few months, there have been leaks in the church roof.  The current roof has been in place for over twenty years.  After studying the situation, the parish Finance Committee has recommended the replacement of the roof for safety reasons and in order to avoid damage to the interior of the church.  The Archdiocesan Finance Committee has endorsed this recommendation.  Four companies were invited to submit bids on the project, and the bid of Amherst Roofing was accepted.  The cost for roof replacement will be $520,000.  Work will likely begin shortly and continue for a number of weeks.  Your patience and support are appreciated.
