Twenty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time

1 September 2019

Repayment will be made to you when the virtuous rise again.

The Gospel of the kingdom perfects some human customs and challenges others.  Jesus challenges our prejudices about rank and honour, and reminds us that God is no respecter of persons.

Todays Readings

First Reading: Ecclesiasticus 3:17-20, 28-29

The sage advises humility as a way of treating our neighbour well and pleasing God.

Second Reading: Hebrews 12:18-19, 22-24

The author presents us with a powerful and beautiful vision of our final end: eternal life with God and all the angels and saints.

Gospel: Luke 14:1, 7-14

Jesus tells a parable and adds teaching to show two things: that there will be a general resurrection and that God invites us all to the wedding banquet of eternal life.
