YEAR OF MERCY VOLUNTEER POSITIONS In this Year of Mercy, St. Joseph’s Parish will be showcasing volunteer possibilities:

THE SENIORS’ CENTRE – A not-for-profit, voluntary, and charitable organization specializing in recreation and leisure activities for today’s active, older adults is in need of volunteers in a variety of areas, including food services, instructors, special events, committees, and more. RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION FOR ADULTS Are you someone, or do you know someone, who has an interest in becoming Catholic, or was baptized Catholic as a child, but has not celebrated the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist? We offer an opportunity to come together in a small group to learn more about our faith. Sessions focus on the teachings and experience of Church and prepare individuals to celebrate the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist during the Easter season. FAREWELL TO KAY WEERASOORIYA Please join us for Mass (with cake to follow) at St. Joseph’s Church, on Tuesday, 20 September 2016, at 2:00 p.m., to say farewell to Kay Weerasooriya. Kay has served as Judge in the Marriage Tribunal of the Archdiocese of Kingston since 1999, and is moving west to take on a similar position with the Diocese of Hamilton.

YOUTH GROUP Welcome back to all St. Joseph’s Youth!! The Youth Group is having a welcome back BBQ and social on Friday, 23 September 2016, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The theme is “Holy Mother Teresa”! We will enjoy a hotdog bbq and some fun and engaging saints trivia in the parish hall following our dinner. We welcome St. Joseph parish youth of all ages. HOSPITALITY SUNDAY The next Hospitality Sunday will take place on Sunday, 25 September 2016, after the 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. Masses. If you are willing to bring squares, cookies or loaves for this event, please sign up on the sheets provided at the church entrances.

“JUST FOR LIFE” WEEKEND will take place on the weekend of 24-25 September 2016. Our parish will be promoting the value of all human life by having a “Just For Life” information weekend. Masses will include a special message, and information on life and family will be provided by Priests for Life Canada.

COLLECTION FOR THE NEEDS OF THE CHURCH IN CANADA The annual Collections, which will be held on 24-25 September 2016, allows each diocese to meet its financial obligations to the regional episcopal assemblies and to the national episcopal Conference. Through your contribution, you too can collaborate with the Bishops in their ministry to teach, sanctify and govern.
SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION will take place on Sunday, 20 November 2016, at 2:00 p.m. If you have a child in grade 8 who wishes to receive this Sacrament, please contact the parish office at 613-547-5004 to register by 26 September 2016. If your child attends one of the parish schools, you will receive a registration form from the school. The Enrollment Ceremony will take place on the weekend of 15-16 October 2016. There will be a parents’ meeting on Monday, 26 September 2016, at 7:00 p.m. in the parish hall regarding Confirmation.

FALL CONCERT On Thursday, 6 October 2016, we will be entertained in the church from 1:00-3:00 p.m., by the local talents of Chris Murphy, Jon McClurg and Brian Flynn. Please come, bring a friend or two, and enjoy two hours of music and fellowship. Light refreshments will be served. A free-will monetary offering would be appreciated.

“At the Heart of the Action” – DEVELOPMENT & PEACE Catholics are mobilizing with Development & Peace ( to support communities around the world affected by Climate Change. Last year, this region sent over 25,000 postcards to Ottawa, asking for support to those most affected by Climate Change – the poor! At COP21, Canada committed to investing 2.65 billion by 2020 to support people in the Global South. This fall we present our vision for how those funds can best be used to benefit the poor and our planet. Join us on Saturday, 1 October 2016, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s parish hall, to learn more, as we celebrate 50 years of solidarity. BIRTHRIGHT Thank you to those who took home baby bottles and have returned them. There are still several bottles that have yet to be returned. If you have one at home, we would be grateful if you would return it by the end of September.

LEGION OF MARY PRAYER REQUEST CARD If you have any prayer requests or needs, please let us know and let us pray for you by filling out a Prayer Request Card, found at each of the entrances, and placing it in the box indicated in the St. Joseph’s Room. Submit as many prayer requests as you wish!


RED MASS will be celebrated by Archbishop O’Brien, on Thursday, 22 September 2016, at 7:00 p.m., At St. Mary’s Cathedral, followed by a wine and cheese reception at St. Mary’s Parish Centre.
