Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time

30 September 2018

“Anyone who is not against us is for us.”

God gives us authority not to lord it over people but to serve them.  Let us open our hearts to God’s word so that we may learn Christ’s gentle ways.

Todays Readings

First Reading: Numbers 11:25-29

Joshua’s misplaced zeal manifests itself in jealousy of others who prophesy without permission.  Moses says he wishes all God’s people could prophesy.

Second Reading: James 5:1-6

“An answer for the rich,” says James in this letter.  Those he seems to have in mind are those who are focused on themselves and what they have earned.

Gospel: Mark 9:38-43, 47-48

There is no room for jealousy in discipleship.  Those who follow Jesus are called to recognize the giftedness of others.

COLLECTION FOR THE NEEDS OF THE CHURCH IN CANADA An invitation to support the faith and evangelization mission of the Church!  The Bishops of Canada gather in four Regional Assemblies (Atlantic, Quebec, Ontario and the West), as well as in their national Conference. The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) is mandated by the Holy See and the Bishops who are its members in a number of areas of pastoral life and evangelization: faith formation and catechesis, doctrinal questions, ecumenical initiatives, international relations, interreligious conversations, liturgical resources, relations with Indigenous Peoples, social justice questions, and building a culture of life and family. The CCCB is the national assembly of the Catholic Bishops in Canada, and includes the Bishops (Eparchs) of the Eastern Catholic Churches, as well. Thank you in advance for your generous contribution to ensure the success of the collection and the ongoing work of evangelization.  The annual Collection, which will be held this weekend, 29-30 September 2018, allows each diocese to meet its financial obligations to the regional episcopal assemblies and to the national episcopal Conference.
