Come Holy Spirit, fill the Hearts of the Faithful

Come Holy Spirit, fill the Hearts of the Faithful

Today we celebrate Pentecost Sunday, the day the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles. It is the feast that reminds us that the Church is alive not because of human power, intelligence, or organization, but because the Spirit of God continues to guide and strengthen her.

When we look at the Apostles before Pentecost, we see men who were afraid and uncertain. Even after the resurrection of Jesus, they remained behind locked doors. They loved Jesus, but fear still controlled them. They were worried about persecution, failure, and the future.

But everything changed when the Holy Spirit came upon them.

The same men who once hid themselves suddenly went out publicly to preach Christ. Peter, who once denied Jesus three times, now boldly proclaimed the Gospel before crowds. The Holy Spirit transformed weak and fearful people into courageous witnesses.

This is important for us because many Christians today are also living behind “locked doors.” Some are trapped by fear, discouragement, anxiety, anger, disappointment, or sin. Some have lost enthusiasm for prayer. Some attend Mass physically but feel spiritually tired within. Some are carrying heavy burdens in their family, health, finances, or personal life.

Pentecost reminds us that God has not abandoned us. The Holy Spirit still renews hearts today.

Today let us invite the Holy Spirit once again into our hearts. Let us ask the Spirit to renew our faith, heal our wounds, strengthen our families, and make us true witnesses of Christ.
