The Glory of Ascension

The Glory of Ascension

Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord, a moment of glory, a turning point in the story of salvation, and a powerful invitation to hope and mission. The  Ascension of the Lord is a moment of glory and mystery. It marks the day when, forty days after the Resurrection, Jesus ascended into heaven in the sight of His disciples. But it is more than a farewell—it is a bold proclamation of faith, mission, and hope.

Jesus, who suffered, died, and rose again, is now exalted to the right hand of the Father. His Ascension is not His absence—it is His glorification. He did not leave us behind; rather, He went ahead to prepare a place for us. As St. Paul writes in the second reading, Christ has been raised above every power and dominion, and God has put all things under His feet. He is the head of the Church, and we, His body share in His Victory.

The Ascension reminds us that our faith is not passive. We are not simply waiting for Jesus to return—we are called to live, witness, and serve until He comes.

And we do not do this alone. In the days after the Ascension, the apostles waited in prayer for the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. So too must we live with hearts open to the Holy Spirit, who empowers us to speak truth, show mercy, and carry out the mission Jesus began.

Let us live with our eyes fixed on heaven, but with hands ready to serve on earth. Until He comes again, may we bring others to know His love, His mercy, and His salvation.

May our faith be active, joyful, and focused on the One who has ascended—not to leave us, but to lead us home.
