I will not Leave you Orphans
The Sixth Sunday of Easter invites us to reflect on the comforting promise of Jesus that we are never alone. In the Gospel from The Gospel of John, Jesus speaks tenderly to His disciples as He prepares them for His departure. Knowing that fear and uncertainty filled their hearts, He assures them with these beautiful words: “I will not leave you orphans.” These words remain powerful for us today because many people carry hidden feelings of loneliness, abandonment, disappointment, and fear. Some struggle with sickness, grief, broken relationships, financial burdens, or spiritual emptiness. Yet Jesus reminds us that His presence never departs from those who believe in Him.
Jesus promises to send another Advocate, the Holy Spirit, who will remain with His followers forever. The Holy Spirit is God dwelling within us — guiding, strengthening, consoling, and transforming us. Very often we try to carry life’s burdens alone. We rely only on our intelligence, our plans, or our strength, and eventually we become tired and discouraged. But the Christian life was never meant to be lived without the Holy Spirit. It is the Spirit who gives courage to weak hearts, peace to troubled minds, and hope to weary souls.
